Serving You: Welcome to My Blog

Hello! My name is Alyssa. I’m so excited (and a little nervous) to get my blogging journey started. A little bit about me: I was born in the Philippines and moved to Northern Virginia, just outside D.C., when I was four years old. I started cooking when I was in high school and really got into it about five years ago. All that said, the main thing that you should know about me is that I love to cook. Nearly anything else you want to know can be read on my About Me page.

Starting to blog.

To me, blogging always felt like an overwhelming idea (it still kinda is!). From what I know about bloggers, they devote a lot of time, money, and energy to growing and expanding their brand. I wasn’t sure that was something that I wanted; I just loved to cook and play around in the kitchen, but I wasn’t sure anyone really cared what I was making. But sometimes the things that scare you are the most worth it.

This blog will be a little of everything, but a lot of Filipino food. I learned how to cook mostly from my mother. I got a lot of home cooking growing up, most of which was Filipino food. It’s still one of my favorite kinds of food to eat and cook. It is, however, my absolute favorite kind of food to share with people.

I grew up in a pretty diverse area. Case in point: there are three different international grocery stores within 3 miles of me. There is a shopping center just a mile away from me that is almost entirely Korean-owned businesses, as is evident by the store signs in Korean. That being said, there is only really a few places within a 30-minute drive that serves Filipino food. And yet, there’s nothing that even compares to how mama makes it. So, I try to cook as much Filipino food for others when I can, which is why I’m thrilled to be sharing some of those recipes with you all!

What to expect.

I’m still learning, so I’m eager for feedback and any other kind of support, especially from other bloggers. I will post a lot of food, recipes, and some of my own thoughts too. I’m not sure what I personally expect, but I hope you all stick with me through it!
